Barn Find Friday! 41 Buick Woody Wagon

Barn find being a loose term, seeing as this one spent the past 30 years in a field, but talk about a rare bird!  This thing is a full blown pooch, and would take a super dedicated person to do anything with, but when was that last time you saw one.. if ever?

FuelTank TV: Craig Metros

It's not often that I come across guys like myself in the production car design world. I mean, most of us are car guys, and there are quite a few hot rod guys in that mix, but most of the guys that I know that are heavy into the hot rod scene aren't car designers as well, so when I stumbled onto this video, I was instantly excited...and a bit jealous (look at that studio space!) I think I've met Craig in the past, probably when I was a design student here in Detroit, but I definitely didn't know about his interest in fine art and hot rodding. Sometimes it's a smaller world than you think.

Aside from the good content, the vid itself is well done, and I plan on checking in often to see what new stuff/people Fuel TankTV will feature.

Custom tool box for the wifey.

My wife loves bikes. She's got four cruisers now, all from the 50's and 60's. Since most of 'em come from estate and garage sales, nothing is perfect, which is all part of the fun anyway. Some time ago, I decided she needed a set of tools of her own...it's what every woman wants right? :)  I have a few genuinely old beat up boxes that I could have given her, but I wanted this to be a clean start (on the inside anyway) so I went out and bought a new black Kobalt box, painted it red, then wet sanded it back. The pictures actually don't do it justice; in reality, the red letters pop more and the gold leafing is crazy bright. For a weekend job, I'm pretty happy with the results and she digs it too, which is always good!

Barn Find Friday: "Gassar"

By all accounts this is a piss poor ad. One crappy picture, no detail about the car at all, not even a make or model! You'd think the guy would atleast spell "Gasser" correctly.  However, '40 Ford Coupes are hot items, as are "gassers"and if this has any of the period goodies left on it from it's track days, it'd definitely be worth a call or look.

29 Steelback "Saloon"

After I posted the "What If" Roadster a few weeks ago, I received a message from a HAMBer who wanted to see what his 1929 Model A Steelback would look like with some euro flare. He asked me to look to late 30's Jag saloons and a few other brits for inspiration and here's what i came up with:

While I didnt want to lose the identity of the Ford, I did aim to get a bit more of the Brittish/European feel to it. In the inital work up, I went with a mild chop, leaned back A pillars, knock off wire wheels, a decent channel to get the body down, and I filled the stock Model A fenders in to emmulate the Jag look a little more. I also added raked 33 Ford hood side vents to the hood to give a bit more direction to the car.

Here's the same car with a bit more chop:

Here it is, without the covered fender sides, which I actually think I like a little better.

The owner and I spoke, and he asked what the car would look like with bobbed cycle style fenders and louvered aprons like the ones in the picture he sent me:

Barn Find Friday: 63 Comet Coupe

Sorry that I've been slackin' lately on the B.F.F. posts.  A mix of being stupid busy, and the 'cease and desist' that one of my favorite national CL search sites recieved has made it hard to find as many good ads to post.  Alas, I'm still on the hunt. So here's todays entry.

There's not too much of a story on this one, though from the pics, it's definitely been hiding for some time. It's all there, and the bucket seats make me think it could be an S22?  Either way, if you like the oddball compacts of yester-year, the price on this one makes it pretty hard to not like.
