Back lot in Utah. 2003

One of the many old car sitings from a road trip I took out to California back in 03. This was a back road in Utah. I honestly doubt much has changed.  I have hundreds of photos form Junkyard adventures over the years. I'll get to posting 'em all eventually.

Lon's 36: Rags to Roadster. Part 3

It's been a while since I've posted anything about Lon's 36. It's still undergoing the transformation from a more-door sedan to roadster, and coming along quite nicely. I did some color studies for Lon, which range from straight up triple black, to the popular red rim/wide white wall.  Personally, I think black on black with, or without  the whitewalls is much more sinister:

Skulls and Razors and Striping, oh my!

I've been on this Mexican skull tip lately, and I started thinking about what i would want to include in a tattoo if I was to go that route. The razors represent my mothers side, since my Grandfather was a barber, and I still have his straight razors. The lettering brushes are from my fathers side, as his father was a striper/letterer by trade.  The spark plug rosaries might be blasphemous, but hey, what can I say? When ya live, breath, sleep, and dream cars, it's a bit like being religious... or not really at all. Whatever. I thought it was cool.

Design165 featured on 53deluxe!

53 Deluxe is the type if site that's right up my alley. Great photo work, and an ever-changing assortment of girls, cars, art and culture. The mastermind is a dude by the name of  Todd, who has a very similar upbringing to mine, including the fact that he originally hails from the garden state. I'm always impressed when i meet someone who is multifaceted, and between the photography, design, and being a fabricator, this dude has got some serious skills. Needless to say I'm super excited to have my work featured on his site.

If you find yourself in New Zealand...

I linked up recently with fellow hot rodder, Dale Clothier. If  you ever wondered about the Kiwi scene, take a peak at his site: Traditional Speed Supply and you'll see it's alive and well, and thanks to guys like Dale, getting traditional go-fast goodies from So-cal, and even some art from...Detroit, is a bit easier!

Parts hauler... from the crypt!

Came across a thread on the HAMB this morning about a guy who saw a 51 chevy hearse that he was in love with, though was upset that the price was stupid high. He posted pictures of the car, which looks like a hill-billied out monster junker, and caught all kinds of flack because of hearse conotations.  Personally hearses aren't my thing, but I feel like there's very few things that can't be cool with a bit of a custom touch.

I threw this quick sketch together to show what I'm talking about. This would a super  parts hauler, and more unique than most of the "shop trucks" that are so popular right now.

Here are the pics of the car he was looking at. (Pics taken from his thread on the HAMB)

Diehards.

Came across this on the HAMB.  Thought it might be cool. Normally I'm not a big fan fan of Reality TV, but anything based on cars, or...well, really anything that doesn't make an absolutely bleak statement about how awful people can be for that matter (yes I'm referring to you, 'Jersey Shore'), could be worth a shot.

Anyway, hopefully it's a good show. As of now, I can say that my interested is definitely peaked.

Like a good neighbor...

So while i was selling work down at the Autorama, I was neighbors with some cool guys from Cincinnati. Joshua Shaw of Shaw Hot Rods being one of 'em. This dude is a multi-talented cat, and I was super impressed looking over all his illustrations, and then seeing him lay some really nice stripes and lettering down over the course of the show. I have a crazy respect for people who can hand letter, since I feel like it takes even more skill than simply pinstriping, which I know takes enormous skill in the first place. Anyway during some down time I had him stripe my net book, Which i think turned out pretty bad ass. :)

Hot rodding...in scale.

I was just checking out LowTech, which I cruise almost daily, and I came across a post about 1:8 scale model cars, which reminded me of my own collection of models from the late fifties and early sixties. When i was a kid, I used to live for my models, and my fiance can attest to the many boxes taking up room in the attic that I absolutely forbid her to get rid of.
I have most of my fathers models, or at least the ones that survived his younger brothers BB gun when he went to the service in the mid sixties, and even though most of them are either in disrepair or were never finished to begin with, I really love what kids of an earlier generation than my own ideas were as far as customizing.
