New shirt design for Jeff @ UltraCoat Powder Coating in NY.
Took the 54 out this morning on what could be one of the last rides of the season before it get cold and gray here in MI, and went out to a swap meet in Davisburg with a buddy of mine. As far as hidden gold, I cant say I ran into much that I couldn't live without, but i did find these hilarious things:
Nothin' screams hillbilly like Bud Spinners.I did find a dude with a decent sized box full of little books from the late 50's to early 60's. He told me that he had had and entire set of them, and that he even had 11000 of them at one point. After leaving his spot and coming back to look again about ten minutes later, he told me that he had had and entire set of them, and that he even had 11000 of them at one point... again. You meet some interesting folks at these things. Anyway I managed to pick out a few that I found interesting content in. One in particular is especially cool. It's an R&C from 61 featuring "Car-icatures." I'll have to get some decent scans of some of the illustrations soon, so stay tooned.. git it? hahahahhhh, i kill myself. :P
I was digging through my external hard drive and trying to clear up some space when i came across this unfinished sketch i did in 06 or 07. I remember i was designing in the full size truck studio at work and the idea struck me that if the Escalade is essentially a dolled up Suburban then why couldn't the same rules apply in 55? Granted it might be a bit on the literal side but i always liked the lines of the mid 50's GM utility vehicles and laying frame cant hurt either... :) I think something like this would make people take a second look for sure!
A ways back, my buddy Anthony at Hi Speed Customs (http://www.hispeedcustoms.com/) got at me about throwing together a design for a potential client. He had some rails and a chopped 3 window shell, but wanted to sell the image of what could be. Truth be told, it was slated to be a car that would travel with the companies race team, and serve as a rolling advertisement of their totally non car related product but was still a cool opportunity. Anyway, times got tough, everyone tightened their belts and the car never came to be.
Here's the sketch. I was going for a bit of an early 60's indy car vibe:
