Banged up...

While out riding this weekend, I took a bad bounce on a rail road crossing and end up super-manning over the handle bars and landed on the tracks.  Needless to say, here I find my self a few days later, with a shattered clavicle and a few staples in the ol' noggin for good measure. I'll be laid up in the hospital for the next week or so, and surgery is on Wednesday. Hopefully recovery won't take too long as my livelihood is in my ability to draw, but I'll keep everyone in the loop as we go... though typing solely with your left hand is a pain in the ass!

Signing off for now, hopefully back soon!

The GLH Story: Body Work

If you caught my original post about my '86 GLH Omni then you know the story behind my sometimes daily driver. Click above link for the long story, but the short of it is that when I bought this car as a broke college student my game plan was to have the needed bodywork done and enjoy the car. 7 years later, I'm having the bodywork done. I gave it to a friend of a friend to go over, and undo what a life of Detroit streets, shade-ball mechanics, and bad luck has done to it, and then cover it all in factory gloss black. Here's a sneak peak of where he's at. :)

Here's the car last week as I was disassembling it:

And here's the updates I just got:

From my Travels...

I must have thousands of pictures from the road, of cars that've seen much better days. Some I found while hunting through overgrown junkyards, while I've spied others in backyards and abandoned lots. Some were for sale, others... well lets just say I've been chased off more than once. I'm gonna start posting some of the more interesting finds as I organize my files, since I maintain that there is plenty of cool stuff out there in plain sight, which keeps me hoping that there is even better stuff still buried away!

Expect the dates to be in absolutely no order, and the locations to be vague at best. :)

Barn Find Friday: Tilt Noses and Street Freakin!

Oddly enough, I came across 2 tilt noses in today's Barn find Search. I took it as a sign.  Neither are particularly amazing preserved pieces of history, but between the door art, the mags and the general stance... they definitely earn some points.

Holy 1990's rendering style!

Over the past weekend, I was asked to do a Demo at a GM hosted Cancer benefit function. I was to represent the 90's era in a exhibit that walked through time at the GM tech center where I work. I decided to do a 90's style sketch/rendering of a Chevy. It was really interesting sketching 90's form language...lots of amorphous shapes. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to effectively rewind from a mid-90's production Camaro and try and sketch/render it the way it could have looked as a concept sketch.

Since I'm always thinking in terms of process (I teach a Visual Communications class in Detroit), I posted it up on my class blog as well in a step by step.Click for Full Demo
